The short version: Your recordings stay on your machine by default. Cloud features (share upload, transcripts, summaries, screenshot upload) only fire when you actively click them. We collect anonymous usage events tied to a random device ID, plus your license email if you buy Pro.
Data we collect
- User preferences - recording defaults, audio settings, format choice. Stored locally via
chrome.storage.
- Recording data - processed locally only. Sent to a server only when you click an upload, transcript, summary, or share feature.
- Anonymous product analytics - install, paywall hit, checkout start, conversion, license activation, uninstall. Tied to a random device identifier. No page URLs. No recording content.
- License information - device identifier, license key, plan, and the email you give us at checkout.
Data we do NOT collect
- Your recorded videos or audio (unless you opt into a cloud feature)
- Personal information beyond optional license email
- Browsing history
- Page URLs in analytics events
- Location information
- Credit card details - those go to Stripe directly
Permissions explained
- desktopCapture - record your screen or specific windows
- tabCapture - record individual browser tabs with audio
- storage - save your preferences locally
- downloads - write your recordings to disk
- offscreen - run the MediaRecorder in a hidden document so it survives popup close
- activeTab and scripting - show the floating REC widget and area picker on the current tab
Where data lives
- Preferences:
chrome.storage.local
- Recordings: in-memory during recording, then your Downloads folder
- Autosave (crash recovery): browser IndexedDB, cleared on successful save
- License + analytics records: our backend (Argonaut, EU-region)
Third-party services
- peakproductivity.online - anonymous product analytics, country-level pricing lookup
- screencapture.site backend - license verification, optional share upload, optional transcript processing, optional summary generation
- imgbb.com - optional screenshot upload, fires only when you click Upload in the editor
- Stripe - payment processing. We never store card details
Children's privacy
Screen Recorder Pro is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights
You can clear local data by uninstalling the extension, clearing browser data, or resetting in Settings. For server-side analytics or license records, email support@screencapture.site and we'll delete records matching your device ID or license email.

We update this page when material changes ship. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
