Troubleshooting
The fixes for things people actually hit. If yours isn't here, email support@screencapture.site.
Chrome asks me twice to share my screen
Fixed in v1.0.46. Update to the latest version. If you're already on the latest and it still happens, try removing and reinstalling the extension - Chrome can hold a stale permission state across updates.
The REC widget disappeared but recording is still going
Fixed in v1.0.51 with a self-healing watchdog. The widget now re-checks recording state every 5 seconds and either reappears or cleans itself up.
If you're on an older version: open the extension popup. The popup shows the live timer and stop button even when the widget is gone.
Stop button does nothing
Same fix as above - update to v1.0.51 or later. As a last-resort manual stop, you can:
- Open
chrome://extensions - Toggle Screen Recorder Pro off and on
- The recording will save whatever it captured to your Downloads
No audio in the recording
Check, in order:
- Did you actually toggle Microphone or System Audio in the popup?
- On macOS in Screen mode, system audio doesn't go through Chrome's "Share audio" toggle - use Tab mode instead.
- Is the right mic selected? The dropdown shows your full system mic list.
- Browser permission: Chrome -> Settings -> Privacy and security -> Site Settings -> Microphone. Make sure the extension is allowed.
Recording downloads but the file is 0 bytes
Almost always means Chrome killed the offscreen document mid-recording. Restart Chrome and try again. If it persists, lower the resolution or bitrate - extremely high settings can OOM the offscreen document on memory-constrained machines.
System audio is silent on macOS
macOS doesn't support system audio through Chrome's screen-share dialog. Workarounds:
- Use Tab mode (tab audio captured directly)
- Install BlackHole (free) and route system audio to a virtual mic
- Switch to Loopback ($$) for a more polished workflow
Pro feature shows the upgrade modal even though I activated
The license check is per-storage-area. Reload the popup (close and reopen) or restart Chrome. If the badge in the popup header still doesn't say PRO:
- Open the popup, click the settings gear
- Scroll to License
- Click Re-verify
Still nothing? Re-paste the key per License activation.
Recording stops by itself after a few minutes
Check Settings -> Recording -> Auto-stop after. If it's set, the recording stops at that mark. Default is Off.
If Auto-stop is Off and recordings still self-terminate, the offscreen document is likely being killed by Chrome under memory pressure. Lower the resolution.
